Capel Cricket Club Men’s team began the indoor season against Hunton at Maidstone YMCA. The format for this competition is twelve overs a side for each six man team.
Capel batted first with openers Darren Semple and Bim Gajjar seeing off the first few overs until Bim was bowled by an excellent in-swinger. Tom Stronell then joined Darren and scored the first six of the match until he was also bowled by a slow spinner. Ryan Walmsley was caught and bowled which brought Ian Matthews to the crease to join Darren, who then had to retire on 25 runs. John Grice was bowled, which brought Darren back to the crease. With the run rate increasing Darren was run out for 31 which left Ian the last man standing. After scoring 35 off the last 3 overs Ian ended the innings on 47 not out with the Capel score of 124; a challenging target.
John Grice opened the bowling in typically economic style with only five runs coming from the first over and Bim getting a wicket in the second with a catch from Darren. After four overs Hunton were on 35 and well behind the run rate. Enter Man of the Match Ian who bowled two Hunton batsmen in his first over to take the game away from the opposition and Darren bowling the overs out. Hunton ending on 86 runs.
