Capel’s Ladies have fun in the sun

FOG Rec was the venue for the West Kent Women’s Softball League tournament on Saturday 20th July. This was the second time Capel’s ladies have competed in the WK League, and the 8-strong team was drawn from Suzi (Captain), Jane, Lisa, Wendy, Tara, Jo, Sally, Nicole, Amy, Sandra, Nichola and Katherine, all of whom participated in at least one game.
The first saw Farningham (in pink) beat Capel (in purple) by 6 runs. In the second Farningham beat Bexley (in red) by 4 runs and in the third Bexley secured a resounding victory over Capel by 38 runs.
Final results were:- 1st Farningham, 2nd Bexley, 3rd Capel, but the home side’s placing does not do justice to some outstanding performances batting, bowling and fielding. The results mattered little as the games were highly entertaining and great fun for everyone.
All the teams thanked Bim and his squad of umpires and scorers for such a well-organized competition.
Around 80 players and spectators forsook watching the Open Golf and Women’s Netball to enjoy the sporting occasion, BBQ, well-stocked bar and tea-time cakes, and entertainment from vocalist Geri Mackay accompanied by John Welch on guitar. Many stayed on for a game between footballers and cricketers which, much to their relief, the cricketers won by 57 runs to53.
The Ladies are now eagerly looking forward to next Sunday’s tournament in Canterbury.
